Global air quality studies

Global scale observations from airborne (e.g. NOAA P-3, NSF/NCAR C-130 and NASA DC-8) and/or shipborne (R/V Araon) missions over Korea using LED-based CEAS instrument are under discussion due to the robust performance of our custom-designed optical cavity and geographical interest.

Further collaboration with other research groups on board will generate valuable data sets for global scale studies. Large spatial, temporal and vertical data coverage will stimulate collaboration with 3-Dimensional Chemical Transport Model (CTM) groups and satellite groups: co-works for satellite and global model validation are also under discussion (i.e. Jacob group at Havard, Burrows at University of Bremen).

by deploying ACES during SENEX2013 mission on NOAA-WP3 aircraft, the 1st-ever in situ air borne map of glyoxal (CHOCHO) was acquired with multiple sets of vertical profiles. This valuable data set will be used to test our understanding of hydrocarbon oxidation processes under low-NOx environmental conditions via 3D global modeling and it will also be used for satellite validation for algorithm development.
