Environmental scientists and engineers face intricate interactions and complex problems created between living beings and their environments or by variabilities of nature itself. The interactions become disastrous and unbearable, or the problems turn out to be monstrous and very difficult to resolve.

The environment and energy engineering program covers the supplying water, water and wastewater treatment, air pollution, solid and hazardous waste management, land and geological pollution protection, and environmental hydrology and water resources engineering, environmental fluid mechanics and earth environmental system. Environmental engineers and scientists are involved in resource development, alxss-location.of use, and management of resources to achieve and maintain the qualities required for designated uses.

Environmental researchers deal with interactions between human beings and their environment, to guard each from the harmful effects of the other. This broad scope provides graduate students with unique opportunities to specialize in areas best suited for their background and research interests. The xss-objectives of the graduate program in Environment and Energy Engineering are to educate students for highly competent environmental engineers and scientists, and to research pollution abatement technologies. The program is interdisciplinary so that qualified students from engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science and other appropriate disciplines may apply.
